Understanding the Needs of ParentChild+ Staff and Families Participating in Virtual Home Visiting

Tipping Point grantee ParentChild+ partners with communities to support children’s healthy development and school readiness. Their innovative program focuses on supporting parent engagement with young children by utilizing Early Learning Specialists who typically share a community, linguistic, and/or cultural context with the families they support. Early Learning Specialists meet one-on-one with caregivers and their 16-48-month-olds twice a week for about 11 months.
Unsurprisingly, the COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging for families ParentChild+ serves. The program quickly adapted to the constraints of quarantine by pivoting to virtual home visits.
Tipping Point funded the research for the following brief by Child Trends in partnership with the research team at the ParentChild+ National Center to better understand the impact of virtual visits on families and staff. The brief analyzes the implementation of the virtual home visiting, the barriers and advantages to this model, and how a hybrid program could be supported for future practice to better serve families.
