TIPPING POINT EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND REACHES $30 MILLION FOR NORTH BAY FIRE RECOVERY
Band Together 2 Featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers and Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real Generates over $4 Million; 100% of Funds Go to Low-Income Communities Hardest Hit
SAN FRANCISCO (December 15, 2017) — Today, Tipping Point Community, a non-profit that fights poverty in the Bay Area, announced that it has raised $30 million for its Emergency Relief Fund in support of low-income and vulnerable communities hardest hit by the devastating fires in the North Bay. Sponsorships and 100% of ticket sales from last night’s Band Together 2 concert featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers and Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real helped raise more than $4 million, and the first Band Together Bay Area concert, hosted on November 9 headlined by Metallica raised $17 million for the Fund. This effort has been bolstered by extraordinary fundraising initiatives by groups like Napa & Sonoma Relief and thousands of individual donors.
“We are humbled and honored to play a role in bringing the Bay Area together to provide relief for such immense need,” said Daniel Lurie, CEO and Founder of Tipping Point Community. “And we know there is a long road ahead. We’re bringing all the resources we can to both immediate action and longer-term solutions.”
Last night’s sold-out Band Together 2 show, which was supported by Another Planet Entertainment, Salesforce, and Twilio, brought together nearly 8,000 people at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. More than 800 of the seats were donated to individuals and families impacted by the fires, including the team at Santa Rosa Community Health, a Tipping Point Emergency Relief Fund grantee, which lost their largest facility in the fires. 90% of their patients are living at or below the poverty line.
Santa Rosa Community Health was spotlighted in a film during the event. “The generosity of this community not only inspires us, but is a powerful reminder of the humanity and compassion for which our region is known,” said Naomi Fuchs, CEO of Santa Rosa Community Health. “The support we’ve received will ensure that our patients get exceptional care while we rebuild.”

In response to the devastating fires in the North Bay, more than 90 Bay Area business and community leaders joined forces for the Band Together Bay Area benefit concerts supporting those hardest hit by the deadly fires through Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino counties in October. This effort was launched by founding sponsors Another Planet Entertainment, Lynne and Marc Benioff, the Ron Conway Family, Google, Kaiser Permanente, Erica and Jeff Lawson, Live Nation, Salesforce, the San Francisco Giants and Twilio.

ABOUT THE NORTH BAY FIRESTORM
The firestorm was the most destructive and deadliest disaster in California history, burning an estimated 200,000 acres and 6,500 homes in Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and Lake Counties and displacing thousands of residents. Damage estimates are in the billions of dollars and rising, and the cleanup and recovery efforts will be the largest and costliest in California history. Low-income and vulnerable communities will have the steepest climb back to recovery; poverty rates in Lake County are at nearly 25%, more than 20% in Mendocino, 11% in Sonoma County, and 10% in Napa County.

Established in response to the 2017 fires in Northern California, the Tipping Point Emergency Relief Fund supports low-income, vulnerable communities impacted by this crisis, including vineyard workers, immigrants, displaced young people, and students. For the last 12 years, Tipping Point has worked to find and fund the most effective poverty-fighting organizations in our region. Tipping Point will call upon this expertise to identify and invest in partners that can deploy capital rapidly and effectively. Tipping Point intends to distribute all Emergency Relief funds by December 2018.
