Strengthening California’s Early Childhood Care and Education Workforce

PUBLISHED: Oct 08, 2024

How does Tipping Point use research to improve care for infants + toddlers?

Nurturing and educating children in the first three years of life creates strong pathways for economic mobility. Yet, building and sustaining a qualified workforce to deliver care for our youngest residents remains a challenge. Recognizing this, a key element of Tipping Point Community’s early childhood strategy is investing in solutions that support the early childhood care workforce. As part of this effort, Tipping Point initiated a study with James Bell Associates to understand and address barriers faced by educators and care providers.

The study’s findings — including the need for enhanced training, inclusion of teacher voices in assessment development, and equity in compensation — provide valuable insights for policymakers, childcare providers, developmental experts, and community advocates looking to strengthen support for this workforce.

Part of our strategy funds research to guide our grantmaking, as well as offer learnings that can inform future policy change. Read the report to see how we can strengthen California’s early childhood care workforce.
