Dear friends,
The recent fires in Los Angeles have been devastating. We’ve heard from many of you about how you, your loved ones, and your communities have been impacted. In the face of such a profound crisis so close to home, we have taken time to consider how we can provide meaningful support to our neighbors in LA while staying true to our mission of fighting poverty in the Bay Area.
Thanks to your support, Tipping Point is providing $50,000 grants to nine of our grantees who also provide on-the-ground services to low-income individuals and families in Los Angeles. This support will help stabilize their services in the Bay Area while allowing them to direct much-needed resources and capacity to their clients affected by the fires in LA.
The organizations are:
- Beyond 12: Provides coaching and technology to help first-generation students succeed in college and beyond
- College Track: Empowers students from underserved communities to graduate from college and pursue their aspirations
- Covenant House: Provides shelter and support to youth experiencing homelessness
- First Place for Youth: Helps foster youth transition to independence with housing, education, and employment services
- Five Keys Schools and Programs: Offers education, workforce training, and community support to help individuals break cycles of incarceration and poverty
- The Forestry and Fire Recruitment Program (FFRP): Offers training, support, and pathways to careers in forestry and firefighting for formerly incarcerated individuals
- Growth Sector: Creates career pathways in STEM fields for underrepresented communities through partnerships with colleges and employers
- Nurse-Family Partnership: Supports first-time mothers with the tools and resources to ensure a healthy start for their children
- Year Up: Bridges the opportunity divide by equipping young adults with skills, experience, and support to reach their potential
Our goal is to ensure that these organizations have the flexibility and support they need to continue their vital work for low-income individuals and families in both regions. We are inspired by their resilience and commitment and are proud to play a part in strengthening their impact during this challenging time.
If you’d like to contribute to the relief efforts for those affected by the fires, we encourage you to consider these nine organizations.
Thank you for being part of our community,
Sam Cobbs
