Foster Youth Program Helps Young Adults Build the Lives They Dream of

PUBLISHED: Jul 11, 2025

“Many 18-year-olds have a family they can call and a place they can go home to. For foster youth like me, First Place is that family.”

Charvette Rojas first shared her story at the 2008 Tipping Point Breakfast as a foster youth finding stability with the help of grantee First Place for Youth. Seventeen years later, she returned to the stage at the 2025 Tipping Point Benefit, reflecting on how the support of First Place helped her succeed in her career and build a thriving life for her and her family.

Many foster youth face instability and unique challenges as they age out of the foster care system. First Place provides wrap-around services, such as academic and employment support, housing, and case management, helping youth find the stability and support they need to grow into successful, self-sufficient adults.

As one of Tipping Point’s first grantees, First Place for Youth is now one of the over 50 nonprofits funded by Tipping Point Community. Tipping Point finds, funds, and strengthens the most promising poverty-fighting solutions so one day everyone in the Bay Area can prosper. Since 2005, we have invested over $440 million in community interventions, policy change, and new ideas. At the 2025 Tipping Point Benefit, we raised a record-breaking $20 million to fund our grantmaking for the next year.

In 2024 alone, our grantees provided life-changing services in housing, early childhood, education, and employment to over 91,000 of our neighbors across the Bay Area.
