New Interim Housing for 124 People

PUBLISHED: Jun 28, 2021

Six months ago, an acre lot in Mountain View lay unused. How did it transform into a supportive interim housing community for over 100 individuals and families?

The pandemic created urgency and a collective will to confront homelessness in a way the Bay Area hasn’t experienced. Seizing on the moment, Tipping Point grantee LifeMoves moved at record speed to purchase land, draw-up plans, and construct innovative modular housing coupled with intensive services. Today, the site is fully operational—providing residents not only with shelter, but also case management, storage, recreation, security, and more.

Within its first year of opening, LifeMoves hopes to serve more than half of Mountain View’s unhoused population through this site. “We have solutions that work and the Bay Area has the resources to make it happen,” shared Joanne Price, Vice President of Real Estate and Operations at LifeMoves. “Now is the time to make housing a priority—we just need to get it done.”

Tipping Point is proud to work with grantees like LifeMoves that are meeting the moment with ingenuity and action to provide solutions to housing in the Bay Area. Learn more about our housing strategy and how Tipping Point partners with organizations to strengthen their impact.
