Earlier this month, over 1,200 people gathered at Bill Graham Civic Center in the heart of San Francisco for Tipping Point’s annual Benefit. All told, the crowd gave more than $13 million to fight poverty.
In keeping with this year’s “be civic centered” theme and the Bay Area’s long legacy of cultivating social movements, we invited some of our most influential business, non-profit and community leaders to share their perspectives about our home.
From Mayor Schaaf’s ode to Oakland, to Laurene Powell Jobs’ wish for more opportunity and former Oakland Raider Justin Tuck’s appeal to end homelessness, we were encouraged by the letters’ enthusiasm and honesty.
We couldn’t resist sharing a few favorites. We hope you’ll find these inspiring, and if you do, we invite you to take a photo or pen a message about your own block, neighborhood or community and tag it with #beciviccentered.
