About the Tipping Point Benefit
At the Benefit, attendees hear the impact of Tipping Point’s work, stand alongside other supporters who believe a better Bay Area is possible, and ultimately pledge support in creating a community where everyone can prosper. Our board covers all of our operating expenses, including the costs of the Benefit. So, all proceeds from tickets and tables will fight poverty in the Bay Area.

Nearly 700 people came together to support the Bay Area last night at Tipping Point Community’s annual Benefit.
SAN FRANCISCO (May 5, 2023) – Guests stepped up to donate $13.4 million for the most effective nonprofits in the region providing support in early childhood, education, housing, and employment. Tipping Point’s Board of Directors funds 100% of the organization’s operating costs, so every dollar raised from the night goes directly to the community.
This year’s Benefit celebrated the power of connection and collective efforts to help people break the cycle of poverty and get on a path to prosperity.
The evening featured powerful speeches and films from Tipping Point’s community of leaders, grantees and those supported by their efforts.
- The Forestry and Fire Recruitment Program helps formerly incarcerated firefighters establish careers in fire management to help protect California from the devastating effects of climate change. Benyomin Fowler, graduate of the inaugural Bay Area cohort supported by Tipping Point, delivered a moving speech on how FFRP helped him land a position with Mendocino National Forest.
- Life Learning Academy, a public charter high school on Treasure Island, supports Bay Area students seeking an alternative to large public high schools. With support from Tipping Point, they opened an on-campus dorm for students facing housing insecurity. A film highlighted 2002 graduates Anthony Faddis and Nora Juárez Faddis, who are passing down the lessons learned at LLA to their own children.
“Building a brighter future for everyone in the Bay Area requires that we push harder, be bolder and use our influence to catalyze ideas and mobilize people to match the urgency of the issues we are facing,” said Tipping Point CEO Sam Cobbs. “Last night was a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish together through the generosity of our supporters and the work of our grantees to help people build economic security and participate fully in our community.”
The program also featured performances by the Kev Choice Ensemble, as well as 2022 Oakland Youth Poet Laureate Nadia Elbgal. The evening concluded with a concert by Grammy Award-winning artists, The Killers.
The event was co-chaired by Lyna Lam and Chris Larsen, Jonathan and Meredith Meeks, Gabe and Melissa Santos, Nadir and Sobia Shaikh, and Danielle and Jed York. It took place at Building 12 at Pier 70 in San Francisco, a historic building used for ship construction and repair during World War II that was recently renovated into a mixed-use event and retail space.
